The National House Project is a member of Homes for Cathy, a national alliance of housing associations and homelessness charities dedicated to raising awareness of the needs of homeless people.
Many young people leaving care go on to become homeless for a whole range of reasons, including the impact of previous trauma and the lack of support. We are seeing a much greater stability for young people in House Projects and homelessness being prevented.
Homes for Cathy was formed to mark the 50th anniversary of the influential Ken Loach film, Cathy Come Home in 2016. The film led to a public outcry about the problem of homelessness. Housing associations were formed up and down the country, initially run by volunteers. Many have since become large providers of badly-needed affordable homes.
The Homes for Cathy group works with the National Housing Federation, Shelter, Crisis and other groups campaigning for homeless people.

Celebrating Success at the Frontline Awards
In May, we were proud to attend the Frontline Awards to celebrate Coventry City Council’s Pathways service winning the Multi-Agency Partnership of the Year award. Funded by the Rayne Foundation, the Pathways programme brings together a number of organisations, including NHP, Coram Voice and The Rees Foundation, working closely alongside the Throughcare Service, Coventry House Project and Lifelong Links. Together, the partnership supports young people leaving care to develop skills, build positive relationships, and focus on their emotional health and wellbeing. Three cohorts of young people from Coventry have now go through the Pathways Programme. Seeing the partnership recognised nationally was a fantastic moment and a powerful reflection of the impact collaborative working can have in supporting care-experienced young people.

Aspirational Awards Update
In May, the Aspirational Awards panel awarded just over £15,000 to 19 young people across our LHPs. It was inspiring to see such a wide range of ideas, goals and determination reflected in the applications, and a privilege to support more young people as they take their next steps forward. Funding in Round 9 supported training + graduate employment scheme, equipment for a baking business and support for other businesses, sports sessions, music lessons, lifeguard course, and day trips. We have also recently completed a 3 year review of our Aspirational Awards and the impact they’ve had. Over the past 3 years, we’ve awarded over £147,000 to 138 young people (not including figures from our most recent round in May). Glasgow Kiltwalk 2026
We’re proud to celebrate a fantastic effort at the Glasgow Kiltwalk 2026, where 25 dedicated walkers came together to raise over £3,500 in support of The National House Project and young people across its Local House Projects, making it a memorable day of teamwork, challenge, and impact.
